It seems to me that all real communities grow out of a shared confrontation with survival.  Communities are not produced by sentiment or mere goodwill.  They grow out of a shared struggle. Our situation in the desert is an incubator for community.

public art installations

The huge mural painted in 2006 by renowned Tohono O’odham artist Michael Chiago on our Curley School office building is the largest of the public art installations ISDA has planned for the Route 85 Ajo-to-Sonoyta corridor.

The double-sided mosaic monument, “Welcome to Ajo,” created by Las Artes of Tucson, was installed in 2005 just north of town and will soon be joined by a second, similar mosaic featuring javelinas and palm trees.
